Cool off at the Frutabar – Fruit Juice and Smoothies in Guayaquil

On a hot day of wandering around Guayaquil, my favorite place to stop is Frutabar, which is a small cafe style restaurant with a light menu and tons of fresh juices. Of all the places I have been in Guayaquil, Frutabar has Logo_frutabarthe widest selection by far when it comes to the number of fruit juices to choose from. You can also mix and match… the combinations are endless.

The menu features a number of light sandwiches, my favorite being the Hawaii Sandwich (Sanduche Hawayano) with chicken, pineapple and a delicious light dressing. Entrees cost $3–6.

If you are getting a sandwich then get a juice, but if you are just coming in here for an ice cold drink get a smoothie (batido). They are blended with milk and ice, but you can ask for just ice if you are lactose-intolerant.

The interior design makes the place feel kind of catered towards foreigners, with western music playing inside, and a “surfer” feel to the whole place.

Check out the Frutabar on the Malecón and Tungurahua on the corner. There is also another location in Urdesa.

Oh ya, Frutabar is great. Good, healthy and tastey food. Tha sandwich I like is the Vegetarian, with palmito(heart of palm) and avocado.

Thanks for that. My son has a terrible aversion to eating raw fruit for some reason, so I made it into smoothies for him and then he loves it! I also found some great smoothie recipes here and thought I’d share – lots of other great ideas there.
