Just outside of the center of town in Canoa, heading down the road towards Sector “El Recreo,” just past the river on the right-hand side (the beach!) is the Sundown Inn and Canoa Spanish School.
Accommodations at the Sundown Inn are comfortable, and the relaxed atmosphere is exactly what you would expect at a beach lodge. The Spanish classes are the best place to learn in Canoa. Juan Carlos and his wife Marilene run the place, with the help of their young daughter Lindsey, Manuel, the night watchman, and 3 big green parrots!
A four week package that includes 3 meals a day, accommodations and a private tuto
r for 20 hours per week costs about 800 dollars. Juan Carlos handles some of the tutoring himself, and Marilene does the cooking, serving up eggs and rolls for breakfast, soup, ceviche, fish, rice or pasta for lunch and dinner. Fresh juice is a staple, as are fresh fruits.
The Sundown Inn is a great place to get started in Canoa for its warm hospitality and excellent teaching skills.
